On a recent dive trip, I had a close encounter with shark.. A silvertip grazed my leg. It was my virginal experience and I was in a mixed emotion. Afraid and confused. Afraid because the visibility was very poor,; I could hardly make out 2 meters. Confused because this is not a usual behaviour of sharks. I learned later that, the local divers have been feeding the sharks and they are quite accustomed to human. It’s a bad practice because it interferes with their natural role as a predator of the ocean and upsetting the marine ecosystem in the process. A few months later, an event irked me even more. Seeing educated people eating shark fin. I understand that some have no intention to order it since it was a free meal but the ignorance of them saddens me deeply. Some even said that its just one bowl, what difference does that make , besides the shark is dead. Excuses that are given does not make sense. If all of us were to use this excuse, who will be the first to stop ? ...

My close group of friends would have been too familiar with me blurting our these words to strangers “ Do you Dive ?” “Wanna go diving?” I love to see smiley divers after a satisfying dive exploration of the water world. The joy it brings to me is immense, knowing that others can share what I have seen and enjoyed for the past years. “Old-salt” divers would have agreed with me that more species were evident in previous years as compared to today. Ecotourism, as the name implies should be practiced as increasing tourists understanding of the importance of ecosystem and protecting it for future generations rather than just simply increasing tourist for profit and hence the demise of a ecosystem. Over zealous dive masters who are bent on profit than protection should be answerable to the ecosystem and their trainees; should they fail to deliver the message of respect and responsibility ! Nean once had a stuff-toy monkey called George Stephenson. George was a gift by Nean’s sister and since the monkey wears a train engineer uniform, she named it after the inventor of trains in 1822; Mr George Stephenson.

 

George wears a snug blue overall with stripe shirt and a hat that was cleverly stitched on him. Back in the good old days when toys were meticulously crafted by hand, the shape and cut of the toy had a more lifelike and appears to resume a character of its own. Now you only see mass produced toys that lacks individuality or being poor copies of famous cartoon characters.

 

The demise of George when Nean was 7 is still fondly remembered until today. George during his glory days, always accompanied Nean to road-trips, TV time and bedtime.  In George, Nean found comfort, trust and  the occasional pillow to lie on during TV time. The affection Nean had towards George grew into a place of solace and dependency.

Excellent dive site to train for buoyancy, stamina, etc.. With strong under currents i.e. "whirlpool"- Pasir Tenggara "wash out" current at Tanjung Api and plenty of ship wrecks, every dive site averages 25m. Currently no DM on island, many DMs experience burn out on this island..if you are interested I can arrange for my Master Instructor, Boon to take you... A must TRY for all ADVANCE

With bated breath and still drenched in sweat, we sat seiza and waited for the panel of examiners to make their remark on the results of the examination. “For the Yudansha group, all passed..” Those few words were indeed music to our ears; because the effort and the training put in for the past 4 years have paid off. Of course the examination was stressful especially for those who were very near the examiners table. 5 feet from examiners seats is too close for comfort, the pressure to do accurate locks and “smoothness” of the execution definitely increases. As Low Sensei puts it, “Exam is a platform to show what you have learned and understood to your teacher” Nevertheless, we tried our best to perform what we have digested and practiced for the past few years. My family and friends could not understand the passion I have developed for this art, probably because they have never experienced what I have gained from Aikido. It has wide angle and good colour saturation ..the flipside is its autocorrection which seems to make pics a little overexposed and filled with noise.. but then again ITS THE BEST CAMERA PHONE IN THE MARKET !!!! Instant Noodle is nutritious - high in protein BUT can be a health hazard if the cooking method is wrong... Based on the instructions.. we normally put the noodles into a pot with water throw in the powder and let it cook for 3 mins This is the WRONG method of cooking the instant noodles. By doing this,we change the molecular structures of the MSG and may be toxic if taken during long period of time. The other thing that you may or may not realized is that, the noodles are coated with wax and it will take around 4 to 5 days for the body to excrete the wax after you have taken the noodles. So the CORRECT method, which you may or may not know, is to cook the noodles this way - 1. boil the noodles in a pot with water. 2. once the noodles is cooked, take out the noodles, and throw away the water which contains wax. 3. boil another pot of water till boiling and put the noodles into the hot boiling water and then shut the fire. 4. only at th...
